Brighton High School Choirs - Four Curricular Choirs
The curricular choirs are Vivace!, Bella Voce, Bel Canto and Chiroscuro. These groups perform at our four annual concerts – Fall, Holiday, Pre-Festival and Spring Spectacular. They also have additional performances scheduled throughout the year.
Vivace (Treble 1) is our Primary Women’s Ensemble. Students may sign up for the class for one or two semesters. Vivace includes students in grades 9-12. This is a non-auditioned ensemble that participates in District Choral Festival. Vivace consistently receives Excellent Ratings at Festival.
Bella Voce (Treble 2) is our Intermediate women’s group. The audition for Bella Voce includes singing a classical selection from a past choir or from work in a voice lesson and sight-reading at a High School Primary Level by yourself. Past leadership in class is also considered. They participate in District Choral Festival, and consistently receive ratings of “Excellent”, with scores exceeding 110 out of 120 possible points. Students are encouraged to participate as soloists at District Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Bel Canto (Treble 3) is the advanced treble class. Students must sight-read at a High School Intermediate level, and perform a classical selection from a past choir experience or voice study. Past leadership in class is also considered. They participate in District and State Solo and Ensemble Festival and regularly receive Excellent ratings. Bel Canto has been selected as a MYAF Outstanding Choir twice in the past 6 years.
Chiaroscuro is our Tenor/Bass Choir at Brighton High School. Students may sign up for the class for one or two semesters and includes students in grades 9-12. This group participates in District and State Solo and Ensemble Festival and regularly receive Excellent ratings. Chiaroscuro (formerly Varsity Men’s Choir) was selected as a MYAF semi-finalist twice in 2018.
Concert Choir is the combination of Bel Canto and Chiaroscuro. They participate in District Choral Festival and regularly receive ratings of “Excellent” and attain scores exceeding 116 out of 120 possible points. Concert Choir was selected as one of two choirs in the state of Michigan to perform at Michigan Youth Arts Festival as an Outstanding Choir in 2018.
