Brighton High School Choirs - Extracurricular Ensembles

The extracurricular ensembles at Brighton High School are all a Cappella (without instruments). The groups are Chicappella (pop, treble), Da Capo (pop, mixed), Notetorious (pop, tenor/bass), Chamber Choir (classical, mixed), Bel Canto (classical, treble), and Chiaroscuro (classical, tenor/bass). These groups practice after school and take the stage at all choir concerts and additional performances around the school and community.

Chicappella, Da Capo, and Notetorious are student-run pop a Cappella groups. Auditions are held as needed and announced in choir classes and through all-school announcements. Auditions include singing alone and with other group members to check quality of voice and ability to blend. Acceptance into the group may also be voice-part dependent. Groups from Brighton compete in the Great Lakes Region of the International Championship of High School A Cappella, where they have placed, and won awards such as “best choreography” and “best arrangement.”

Chamber Choir, Bel Canto, and Chiaroscuro are director-led a Cappella groups. Auditions are held at the beginning of June each year for the next school year. Auditions involve singing with other group members in quartets to check quality of voice, blend, and ability to learn music quickly. Acceptance into the group may also be voice-part dependent. Chamber Choir regularly receives “excellent” ratings at District and State Solo and Ensemble Festival and has been selected to perform at Youth Arts Festival as a Large Ensemble.
