Director - Phil Johnson
Phil Johnson is the Brighton High School Choir Teacher, and also teaches AP Music Theory. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Vocal/General Music Education in 2001. He received his Masters Degree in Choral Conducting in 2007, also from MSU. Mr. Johnson joined the Brighton Choir Team in 2012, after teaching for a year in Kingsley, MI, and 10 years in Traverse City Public Schools. He conducts the orchestra, and prepares the chorus for the Brighton Musical Theater Program each year, which in 2017 won the Sutton Foster Award for “Best Musical” in Michigan. He conducted the 2011 SATB and 2015 TTB Michigan State Honors Choirs. He and his wife, Dianne, have three children, Ethan, Maxwell and Adeline.
Accompanist - Kim Kingshott
Kim began studying piano at the age of four and was one of those rare children who actually enjoyed practicing! She took piano lessons throughout high school, but chose to major in Biology when she later attended Hope College. After graduation, she worked for ten years in the Clinical Chemistry Lab at the University of Michigan Medical Center as a medical technologist. Kim now works as the accompanist for Brighton High School Choirs, Livingston County Women’s Chorus, and also accompanies vocal and instrumental soloists, choirs, and other groups needing an accompanist.
